Jeff Mauro won the Food Network Star season seven competition[1] and subsequently launched a show on the Food Network channel titled Sandwich King. Mauro, of Chicago, Illinois, aired the first episode of his show on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
The Food Network Star judges consistently noted Mauro's humor and likable persona, which were both evidenced in the first episode of Sandwich King.[2] During the competition with fourteen other contestants to win the opportunity to have a cooking show, Mauro did not waver from his culinary point of view of concentrating on sandwiches.
Mauro rejects criticisms that there isn’t enough to say about sandwiches to fill out a season, noting that any handheld "meal" could be classified as a sandwich.[3]
Mauro attended Bradley University.[4]
